In the morning, after a great breakfast at the swanky Knot Hotel, I walked back to Hiroshima Station, got a local train to Miyajimaguchi (just a half hour ride), and took the short ferry hop across to Miyajima Island.
My hotel here, The Sakuraya, stands in great contrast to the one I've just come from. It's clearly not a very new hotel and the rooms are Japanese style with tatami mats, a low table and a futon.

The famous Torii Gate was already swarming with tourists by the time I arrived in mid-morning, so I decided to leave that to early tomorrow (one benefit to having a hotel actually on Miyajima). Below is a picture taken from the ferry.

Instead I took the ropeway (actually two ropeways followed by a half-hour climb) to the top of Mount Misen (see photo below or here for the interactive version) and walked back down through the forest.
